FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is TMS the same as ECT?
No. TMS is different from electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). TMS uses magnetic pulses to stimulate targeted areas of the brain and is performed while you are awake and alert.
How long does a TMS treatment take?
A typical NeuroStar treatment session lasts about 19 minutes or less. Your provider will determine the appropriate treatment schedule for you.
Can I drive after TMS?
NeuroStar treatment does not require general anesthesia or sedation. Patients remain awake and alert and can resume normal activities, including driving, immediately following treatment.
Does TMS hurt?
Some patients experience tapping, tingling, or discomfort at the treatment site. The most common side effect is pain or discomfort near the treatment area, which is generally temporary.
Is TMS covered by insurance?
NeuroStar is covered by many major insurance plans, but coverage and eligibility requirements vary. The Caring Center can help you understand the next steps.
